Mr. Toad’s New Mania

Today I just want to pay homage to the happiest little dancing frog that ever hip-hopped his way through Walt Disney World.

Nice try. Go find a Six Flags.
This little amphibian deserves our love, admiration, and respect, because he is able to dance on one foot while waving something in his hand with his mouth wide open towards the sky!  You may have seen him, as he is very popular.  Or at least, he should be popular.  People ride past him every day.  Here he is, frozen in mid-dance through the magic of digital photography.

Dancing frog, life size.  Did you know that some frogs can freeze until their heart stops beating, then thaw out months later and live?  It’s true!
Do you like him?  I think he’s delightful.  No, it’s not Mr. Toad (those darn bait-and-switch headlines!), but he’s very near to Toady’s old hang-out spot, albeit in a completely different Fantasyland dark ride that ostensibly has nothing to do with frogs (or dancing). He just couldn’t help himself.  It’s the dwarfs’ fault, you see.  Them and their catchy Silly Song.
So next time you ride by, be sure to tip your hat and dance a little jig along with him.  Just don’t blink, or you’ll miss him.  And remind me sometime to post the picture of that demonic two-headed chicken/goat thing that haunts another beloved Fantasyland attraction…

Remember, this picture is about the happy frog, not the tortured rabbit.

  1. I knew you’d be able to come up with some! Love the mention of the gravemarker; I’m sure I’ve seen that one but I don’t remember it specifically.

  2. This is a great idea. Frogs of Walt Disney World. I wonder if they can make a calendar of it…

If I’m not mistaken, there are some large bullfrogs visible from the WDW Railroad, trapped on a stump by an alligator (I could be confusing it with Disneyland). Mr. Toad has a couple hidden references in Pooh, and also a gravemarker in the Pet Cemetary outside Haunted Mansion.

There’s a large live bullfrog on display in the Naked Mole Rat building on AK’s Pangani Forest walking tour. And a frog features prominently in the Kodak pre-show to Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

I will have to give this some more thought.

  3. I thought maybe you’d be talking about this guy or this one. I can’t think of any other WDW attractions that feature frogs but I’m sure there must be some. Any ideas?
